Don't do a commission for this guy.

It was brought to my attention by a wonderful person that a mass e-mail was sent out to many people from a former commission client of mine. I had thought this issue was resolved but he felt the need to embarrass me by sending out a terribly insulting email. I feel that I'm allowed to defend myself here to anyone who recieved the email and tell you my side of the story.

I did a few commissions for him in the past. Now I have done commissions for almost 10 years, I like to think I have had every possible type of client. I've had people who are very open to me having creative freedom. I've had people who are very VERY specific about certain details in a piece. When it is VITAL that a certain detail is needed in a commission I NEED TO BE TOLD THAT. He asked for a commission of my character Candy Cat and Raymond Fox. It was a basic simple commission, nothing fancy, just a two character pic. I spend 2 afternoons getting the piece finished. I send it to him confident that he would love it. I get a reply that was so nasty and filled with venom that I was practically in tears. Apparently it was VITAL that I drew Raymond FULL BODY. It was apparently so vital that he felt the need to send a horrible insulting nasty email to me pretty much stating that the commission was a piece of crap because Raymond wasn't full body. No client has EVER spoken to me so horribly...

Anyways an argument ensued about it and I refused to do anymore business with him because of how he spoke to me. He eventually appologized but that is no excuse to speak so horribly to ANYONE over something like a commission. Again, if it was THAT important that both characters were full body it should have been bold and underlined in the email or something. The way he acted you would have thought I committed the original sin or something..

Anyways we get back in contact weeks ago and once again he is looking for me to completely redo the commission and I refuse. I offer him a partial refund for the thing (it was only $40 but I wasn't going to give it all back because he got his commission) but he won't have it.

Now after a while we resolved our differences. He appologized and I appologized and he even asked me for a new commission, one that he would pay for. I told him that I could not do business with him again, but that we are fine now. He seemed alright with that and I have not heard from him since I get told about the email today.

I didn't think this issue was anyone's business but if he feels that it is alright to send insulting emails about me behind my back, I have the right to defend myself. I thought we were okay but I guess not..

Gah. Thanks for the warning. I doubt it'll be a problem for me since I rarely get random commission emails/notes, but I'll keep my eyes open. I'm sorry that one worked out so badly for you. Rude people suck. Out loud.

Thank you for the warning, Candy.

Again, my suggestion to you is to place this and all evidence (if you've things logged and/or screenshotted or even emails saved.. I'd back them up and submit them) posted to Artist Beware.

Good luck.
Kinda sucks, I've had people mail me nasty things for being nothing more than nice to people ><

In Blackest day, in brightest Night, beware your fears made into light, let those who try to stop whats right, burn like my power, Sinestros might!!
That is the most childish thing I had ever heard! Honestly..its not your fault at all..He didn't specify a thing with the commission, and basically gave you the freedom to do with it as you liked. And to go and do that, after you both apologized to each other, its just seriously the most childish thing I've ever heard and even children wouldn't do that.

Why is the regret still running?
Somewhere far away the voice of a promise
It cannot be heard it anymore.

This is my pledge to you

Ugh, I know the sort. The kind that seem to think as a client of theirs they own you, and if you do something wrong, you've done them not just a dis-service but that you've insulted them. Unfortunately it seems there's quite a few of these guys out there. I really don't get it. Even if you're paid, you're offering a service, which means you're going out of your way to do something for someone you don't have to do. You're offering them your talent. And yet they spit all over you if they're not 100% satisfied.

Disgusting.

Geez, what a jerk. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.
The work you did for me was fantastic. You exercised your creative side as well as followed my ideas. If he wanted something so specific, then he should have spoken up. Then again, maybe he should learn how to draw, shade, and color and do it himself from now on.

I haven't heard from him, and would tell him the same thing if I did/do.

You do damn good work, and I'm proud to have something you've done for me.

Remember, Wisdom is your Strength.
I did a commission for him and everything went fine. I have no idea what was said in the email, but he seemed like a nice enough guy to me. I'm not calling you a liar at all, please don't misunderstand. I apologize for him if he spoke to you harshly. However, I think if he asked for and paid for a full body portrait and was specific, he shouldn't have to underline or bold it.

I really don't know what to say, other than maybe a sketch before completion so he can approve it or say something was wrong beforehand? It's a good idea to send updates along the way in general so no one gets angry. Good luck! ^^
What. An. Ass.
That's all I can think of. I want to kick him in the face, scream at him and tell him that you don't treat people like crap unless you're willing to be treated like crap as well. Not to play down his feelings, but geeze, it was a commission and if it wasn't right all he had to do was say, no? I'm sure you wouldn't rip his face off or become a shedemon and eat him! I bet that you're one of the nicest people to get pictures from, because you're such a doll face... He probably saw that and figured he could try to make you feel bad because you are so nice.
Me and Fred will go beat him up, yes? With baseball bats... ... Yes.
